Hello all and welcome to our August sponsor newsletter,
here as I dig into what we have coming up across the various AI and Games channels, be it YouTube videos, the Branching Factor podcast, or indeed right here on the Substack.Production took a bit of a hit in the past month or so given my travels for events like Develop: Brighton, my vacation back in Scotland, and of course the recent announcement of the AI and Games Conference. Which, yeah, on that note…
You Announced a Conference?!?
Given you all help support AI and Games, I like to give you a heads up on what is coming up. But yeah, I somehow managed to announce a conference without warning. What happened there?
As mentioned in the episode of Branching Factor that just dropped this week, I explained to
idea of running something like the AI and Games Conference has been bouncing around for a while. But the turnaround from ‘a cool idea in principle’ to ‘oh my goodness this is happening’ was very short. We were having conversations back in April about the possibility of putting this together, and I’m grateful that we have a team of fantastic people behind it that helped us reach this point pretty quickly. So I spent much of June and July exchanging emails with potential sponsors and speakers, setting up bank accounts, registering with the UK charity commission and hosting organiser meetings while I was on the road at the Summer School, at Dagstuhl, at Develop, and on vacation. In truth, it only really clicked together about 3 weeks before we announced it, and that’s largely because our sponsors came on board, and helped address a big challenge facing us: funding the venue.
I did in fact allude to all of this in the last newsletter last month, mentioning I was working with a team on a new idea. But in truth, it just moved at such a fast rate, that by the time I was ready to talk about it with you, we were going to launch it. That might sound crazy, but given the event is only 3 months out, we needed to start making some noise about it in order to gain some traction.
So yeah, here we are, AI and Games Conference 2024 is a thing, it’s happening, and I look forward to seeing some of you there.
Okay, let’s dig into some of the upcoming content we have across all of the different strands of AI and Games - both the YouTube channels, the podcast, the Substack and more! Plus an update on how things are coming together for the Goal State Kickstarter.
